Sushil Kumar has scripted history at the London Olympics 2012  Games by making it to the final of the men`s 66kg event defeating Akzhurek Tanatarov of Kazakhstan in the semifinals.

Wrestler Sushil Kumar on Sunday created history by becoming the first Indian to win back-to-back Olympic medals when he assured himself a silver by storming into the final of the men's freestyle 66 category in a dramatic fashion at the Excel arena in London on Sunday.

The 29-year-old Indian demolishedAkhzurek Tanatrov of Kazakhstan 3-1 in an engrossing semi-final contest to achieve the memorable feat and provide the late spark to India's Olympic campaign.

With Sushil's heroics on the mat, India have now put themselves on course for the coveted gold medal which had eluded them so far.

Apart from Sushil's assured silver, India have so far bagged one silver and four bronze medals in the 30th edition of the Games, surpassing the one gold and two bronze medals they won in Beijing four years ago.

Sushil, a bronze medallist in the Beijing Games and the flag bearer of the Indian contingent in London, kept his reputation intact with a stunning display of skill, stamina and power as he wriggled out of some difficult positions to fashion victories.

Backed by vociferous Indian spectators, Sushil wrapped up the first period 3-0 in the high-voltage semi-final clash against Tanatrov but lost the second by an identical score.

In the crucial third round, the Indian was lagging 0-3 behind but he showed his class and strength to fight back and level the score after pegging him down by his legs with the vociferous Indian contingent egging him on.

With 34 seconds left, the Indian scored two more points to move to 5-3 and then, with just seconds left in the contest, he sealed his victory by lifting his rival on to his shoulders and throwing him down on the mat to win the third period 6-3 to enter the finals.

The Indian will now meet Japanese army man Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu in the final. Tatsuhiro prevailed over two-time European Champion J Hasanov ofAzerbeijan in the other semi-final.

Earlier, Sushil disposed of defending champion Ramazan Sahin of Turkey and then prevailed over Uzbekistan's Ikhtiyor Naruzov 3-1.

The Indian appeared a little rusty in the first period of his bout against Sahinin the pre-quarter finals but found his mojo to tilt the scale in his favour from the second onwards.

Sushil lost the first period 0-2 and then took advantage of the click to scrape past in the second round with a 1-0 scoreline. He played it safe in the third round and did not take too many risks but managed to get one point to get the better of the Beijing Olympic gold medallist.

In the quarter final, Sushil showed his aggressive instincts a little more as he tried to rattle the Uzbek opponent by trying out different grips.

The Indian wrestler bagged the first period quite comfortably with a 3-1 margin but conceded two points late in the second to lose 1-2.

With scores tied at 1-1, Sushil went for an all out attack and relied on his experience to secure two points and romp into the semi-finals much to the delight of the hordes of flag-waving Indian spectators who cheered him lustily.

I was just screaming 'Bolt, Bolt, Bolt'. I met him a few times before here and asked him if I could take a picture before ... I guess when he saw me, he recognised me and thought 'OK, that's the same guy again'. 

"Today I was up in the stands shooting another picture [of the race] with the Olympic flame in front. Then I saw him walking slowly around and I think (sic) maybe if I go down there," Wixtrom explained.

"I was running all over the place and I was just in time.

"I was just screaming 'Bolt, Bolt, Bolt'. I met him a few times before here and asked him if I could take a picture before ... I guess when he saw me, he recognised me and thought 'OK, that's the same guy again'."

The results were some geninuely exclusive photos of the race's aftermath, except they were taken by the star of the show himself. Bolt targeted his focus on Blake, along with dozens of other lenses pointed back his way.

Wixtrom's employers back at home would be happy, the Swede pointed out, now that they are in possession of some unique images that could possibly be labelled 'From The Eyes of Bolt'.

He says the photos are excellent and agrees the Jamaican superstar may have something of an eye for photography.

"It was amazing. The picture was fantastic ... he's the biggest person in the world right now ... doing this (gestering the characteristic 'Lightning Bolt')."

When the Jamaican was later asked about his brief foray into photography, he flashed a characteristic smile. "It always makes for a great picture. So for me it was fun."

"I just wanted to do it, I really, really wanted to do it. I almost fell off the platform because my legs were so shaky, but I tried to disguise it a little," Broben said of her last dive.

"I saw my coach's face and I've dreamt about that moment, seeing his face after my dive. It just happened and I can't believe it."

Broben, a 16-year-old diver competing in her first Olympics, finished second at 366.50. She jumped up and down and ran to hug her coach after realizing she had earned a medal.

"Please don't pinch me because I never want to wake up. It's amazing," she said, wearing an Australia flag featuring a boxing kangaroo around her shoulders. "My coach was holding his breath on the last dive."

Usain Bolt tonight secured the legendary status he craved by becoming the first man ever to win the Olympic Games sprint double twice in succession.

After proclaiming that retaining his 100m and 200m Olympic titles had made him a "living legend", Usain Bolt took aim at Carl Lewis for casting aspersions on the manner in which he had done so.

Lewis has hinted in the past that the drug testing programme in Jamacia is less rigorous than in other countries, but Bolt said Lewis was attention seeking. "Carl Lewis, I have no respect for him. The things he says about other track athletes is really downgrading other athletes," said Bolt after retaining his Olympic 200m title. "I think he is looking for attention because no one really talks much about him. I've lost all respect for him. It's really upsetting for me."

In 2008, Lewis said: "No one is accusing anyone. But don't live by a different rule and expect the same kind of respect. No country has had that kind of dominance. I'm not saying they've done anything for certain. I don't know."

Earlier, Bolt had said the dominance of Jamica was the result of hard work and training: "When people doubt us it's really hard, but we try our best to show the world we're running clean." The Jamaican said that he would carry on running but that he would probably retire before he reached 30.

On defending his titles at the next Games in Rio, he said that he thought the competition from Yohan Blake and others would be too much: "I think I've had my time. In life, anything is possible but that's going to be a hard reach." After successfully defending his Olympic 100m and 200m titles, Bolt said that he had proved he was "the greatest athlete to live". Bolt, who won the 200m in 19.32 seconds to lead a clean sweep in front of his Jamaican compatriots Yohan Blake and Warren Weir, said the achievement put him in the same category as his hero Michael Johnson.

"It's what I came here to do. I'm now a legend, I'm also the greatest athlete to live. I am in the same category as Michael Johnson," he said after finishing in the same time as Johnson's former world record. Bolt said that he felt inhibited by a back injury that has troubled him this season - yet still appeared to have something to spare as he crossed the line.

"The 200m was harder than I expected. I could feel the pressure coming off the bend and that's when I had to focus."

Weir revealed that before the race, Bolt had come up to him and said "one, two, three" and the trio completed a lap of honour that turned into an entertaining sideshow for the 80,000 present.

"It's wonderful. 

Jamica  has proven that we are the greatest sprint country. I've got nothing left to prove. I've showed the world I'm the best and, right now, I just want to enjoy myself," said Bolt. "This is my moment. I'll never forget this. Lane seven has been good to me these past couple of days."

Before the start of the race, Bolt had joked and bumped fists with the volunteer holding his kit. After storming to victory, he did press ups on the track and borrowed a photographer's camera to take pictures of his friend and training partner Blake.

Bolt didn't have it all his own way in terms of era defining performances as Kenyan 800m runner David Rudisha became the first person to break a world record on the Olympic Stadium track.

Asked afterwards whether he fancied splitting the difference and taking on Bolt over 400m, he said: "It would be great fun, let's do it."
