India and Pakistan in disaster with Kashmir Floods | #KashmirFloods | #KashmirFloodspictures

Jammu and Kashmir is battling one of the worst floods in decades

More than 360 people have been killed during the floods, including 231 in Pakistan.

More than 300,000 military personnel and 300 jets, choppers and boats have swarmed the northern state, rescuing more than 77,500 residents after a week of rain caused riverbanks to burst.

Armies in both countries scramble to help the victims, while officials warn of more flooding to come.

“The army will not move back to the barracks till the last man is brought to safety,” army chief Dalbir Singh said in an e-mailed statement yesterday.

Five days of heavy rain abated over the weekend, but flood waters in Srinagar rose dramatically overnight Saturday to Sunday.
Many people were caught unawares by the flood waters.

Britain to give 'most vulnerable' "Syrian refugees" temporary residence

Britain has announced it will give temporary residence to hundreds of vulnerable Syrian refugees, targeting those most traumatised by the three-year civil war.
Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg says refuge will be provided for female victims of sexual violence, the disabled, the elderly and torture victims.
Though there is no set quota, his office says the overall number is likely to be in the hundreds.

Britain will work with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) on a case-by-case basis to identify those most in need.
"I am pleased to be able to announce today that the UK will be providing refuge to some of the most vulnerable Syrian refugees," Mr Clegg said in a statement.

Diplomatic storm : arrest diplomat Devyani Khobragade in New York

Although India has taken a tough stand against the U.S. over the arrest of its diplomat Devyani Khobragade in New York, the government’s muted response to other provocations such as spying shows that it is keen to remain America’s “global strategic partner”. By JOHN CHERIAN

THE arrest and strip-search of Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade by the New York Police on December 12 has expectedly evoked strong reactions in India. The political parties were united in defending the honour of Devyani, who is accused of committing a “visa fraud” and of making a false declaration in connection with the employment of her Indian housemaid, Sangeeta Richard. Under the United States’ law, the charges against the Deputy Consul General at the Indian Consulate in New York could lead to a jail term of more than 10 years.
The US Media has been scathing about New Delhi's response. "India is responding with investigations and administrative actions directed by the government for political ends — a tactic common in authoritarian states such as Russia or China but unworthy of a democracy," Washington Post said in an editorial on Wednesday.

"Its bullying measures have ranged from the petty — withdrawing the US embassy's permit to import alcohol — to the irresponsible — removing security barricades from the street in front of the facility," it further said

It reveals new facts about the life of gunman Adam Lanza, 20, said to have suffered from mental health issues.
Lanza turned a gun on himself after opening fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown in December 2012.
Before killing 20 children and six adults with a semi-automatic rifle, he shot dead his own mother at the family home. She had bought him the weapons used in the rampage.

LIFE QUOTES : “Collect moments, not things.”

Three simple rules for life: 1) If you do not decide what you want, you’ll never get it.
 2) If you do not ask, the answer will always be “no.”
3) If you never take a step forward, you’ll always remain in the same place.

“Nothing is going to be handed to you.
You have to make things happen.” -Florence Griffith-Joyne

“Those who look for the good in others will naturally
bring out the good in themselves.”
“If one drop of rain can find its way to the ocean,
one prayer can find its way to God.”
-Linda Poindexter

“Avoid negative people for they are the greatest destroyers of
self confidence and self esteem.
Surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you.”

“Fall in love only when you’re ready, not when you’re lonely.”

“The best love is the one that makes you a better person,
without changing you into someone other than yourself.”

Jade Goody died

LONDON, England (CNN) -- British reality TV celebrity Jade Goody died early Sunday morning following a public battle with cervical cancer, her publicist has announced.

Jade Goody married her fiance Jack Tweed weeks before her death.

Jade Goody married her fiance Jack Tweed weeks before her death.

Goody, 27, died in her sleep at home in Essex, east of London, just before 4 a.m. (midnight Eastern Daylight Time), a spokeswoman for Max Clifford Associates said.

Goody's husband, Jack Tweed, who she married last month in a lavish wedding ceremony, was at her bedside when she died, Clifford said.

Her mother, Jackiey Budden, who was also at the house, said: "My beautiful daughter is at peace."

Goody leaves behind two sons, Bobby, 5, and Freddie, 4, by former boyfriend and TV host Jeff Brazier.

"She died knowing that she had touched a lot of hearts and minds across the world," Clifford told CNN by phone from Portugal.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said he was "deeply saddened" by Goody's death.

"Her family can be extremely proud of the work she has done to raise awareness of cervical cancer which will benefit thousands of women across the U.K. Every death from cancer is a tragedy and my thoughts go out to her two sons, husband and family at this time," Brown said in a statement.

The British media has reported a rise in the number of screenings for cervical cancer since Goody announced she had the disease, a phenomenon some have dubbed the "Jade Goody effect."

Goody's death marks the tragic end to a very modern tale. Images of her shrinking frame and bald head have dominated the pages of British media since she announced she had just weeks to live.

However, she has openly courted the attention since bursting into the spotlight courtesy of the British version of "Big Brother" in 2002.

At first the former dental nurse was a hate figure for Britain's vociferous tabloid newspapers, who attacked her for being ignorant and stupid.

The public, however, warmed to her loud, honest streak.

She did not win the series, but was able to parlay her popularity into a series of reality television and business deals.

Her face was soon regularly boldly looking out from the cover of gossip magazines and you could buy the fragrance Shh... Jade Goody, fitness DVDs or pick up a copy of her autobiography.

In 2007, with her fame starting to dip, she agreed to return for the celebrity edition of "Big Brother," with her mother and then boyfriend, Jack Tweed, joining her in the house.

It was to prove an ill-fated decision.

Goody was soon accused of making racist comments and bullying her housemate -- the Indian actress Shilpa Shetty. More than 50,000 complaints were received.

When she was voted out of the house the show's producers took the unusual step of banning the public from attending her eviction.

Goody was tearful and apologetic but British PR guru Clifford summed up the general opinion at the time by saying: "It looks like she has ruined a very lucrative career."

Ever resilient, Goody had a Christmas cookbook out at the end of 2007 and in 2008 signed up for India's version of "Big Brother."

Two days into the show her cancer diagnosis was revealed on air. She flew home immediately to begin treatment.

Last month Goody revealed her cancer was terminal and that she only had weeks to live.

With typical bravado she, with Clifford's help, organized her wedding to Tweed, who had only just been released from prison after serving a sentence for assault, selling the exclusive rights to OK! magazine for a reported $970,000. It was also filmed for her reality TV show.

The British government even stepped in to extend Tweed's 7 p.m. curfew, a condition of his release from jail, so the couple could spend their wedding night together.

Despite her weakening state Goody continued to open her door to the media, saying she needed to keep selling her story to help secure the future of her sons.

In the days leading up to her death there were newspaper stories on a hammer-wielding woman getting into her room, the baptism of her sons, her last view of "sun-kissed" fields and final farewells with family.

There was also controversy when OK! published a memorial issue nearly a week before she died. The issue, with a coverline announcing "Jady Goody, 1981-2009," went on sale Tuesday.

Clifford said Goody had loved her time in the spotlight.

"I think they've (she and the media) exploited each other. Both have benefited. In Jade's own words, she's loved the last 7 years. They've been wonderful. All the people's she's met, all the things she's done."

Jesse Logan's Mother: 'Sexting' Led to Suicide (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
Jesse Logan's mother Cynthia on Friday's 'Today' show

Jesse Logan’s grieving mother spoke about the dangers of "SEXTING " with Matt Lauer on the "Today" show Friday.

Cynthia Logan’s appearance comes eight months after her 18-year-old daughter committed suicide after enduring harassment over a nude photograph shared among hundreds of classmates.

Cynthia believes "sexting," the act of sending racy photographs via text messaging, helped push her once "vivacious" and "fun" daughter to kill herself. One year ago, using her cell phone, young Logan sent a photograph of her nude self to her then-boyfriend.

When they broke up, that racy photograph was forwarded to more than 100 teenagers, the "Today" show reports. Then came the constant ridicule, name-calling and harassment from classmates at her high school. At first, Logan hid from the humiliation by skipping classes, until, one day, she decided to do an interview on a local NBC affiliate in Cincinnati to draw attention to the problems of high-school bullying and the dangers of "sexting."

The "Today" show also mentions how "sexting" has become a trend among teens and young adults. According to a poll conducted last fall by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy , 39 percent of teens are sending or posting "sexually suggestive messages," and 48 percent reported receiving such messages. The Friday broadcast also featured Parry Aftab, an Internet security expert and cyberspace watchdog for teenagers, who said that texting inappropriate photographs could be considered illegal and pornographic.

Childhood Innocence

No matter how old we are, no matter how many experiences (good or bad) we've had; we all have an inner child. This weeks lecture mentioned the importance of our childhood innocence. "The child is father of the man" never thought of this until I studuied these literature units.
The natural life cycle is as follows: We are born fragile and need someone to take care of us. We then go through life experiences which allows us to adapt to our environment, create our own way of thinking and decision making, which allows us to become an independent.
Just as the stakes are high, we go back to our childhood. We become fragile, just like a child except with a few lines on our delicate skin.

Each line represents a certain experience. It's a shame that people are anxious to get rid of them. Erasing a wrinkle is like erasing an experience, a memory that YOU lived. In one of the letters in this week's reading, there was a quote "Naked we came and naked we shall return". This is so true! We came to this Earth with nothing. We lived on this Earth with clothes, which may symbolise experiences, yet when we leave this Earth, we leave those experiences behind and so, like the biblical reference states: inorder to leave this Earth we must return to our childhood innocence. Blake's work is highly religious and this fits in to the purpose of his work. Humanity is highly materialistic. We can't help it... in a way it's "natural" to us. I know I'm contradicting myself when I say that but it is true in a way.
